Help your child love to communicate

When our children struggle to communicate, this can be a huge source of stress and frustration for them and a worrying time for us. Especially when they cannot express their needs, or if we’re not sure if they understand.
You may have tried to access support, only to be on the end of a long waiting list. Help is available and you don’t need to go through this alone.
I’m Barbara Grasso, a bilingual Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in working with children. I’m passionate about early intervention to help children with their communication skills. I offer one-to-one therapy in person in Greenwich and Canary Wharf, in school or online for those further away.
I will listen and get to know your child to understand their unique abilities, needs and areas for development. We will work together using play and sessions will be tailored to their interests and favourite games. I will also partner with you to build on the support you already give your child, providing new strategies to use to develop their speech, language and communication at home.
Born in Brazil, and resident in the UK for over ten years, I can run sessions in either my adopted language of English, or my native Portuguese – or both! I am a proud advocate for multi-language families and the rich benefits speaking more than one language offers your child.

Hi, I'm Barbara!

I set up Barbara Grasso Speech and Language Therapy to do more of what I love: helping children develop their communication skills.

I support children with a variety of speech, language and communication needs.

Before going into independent practice, I worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS in a range of settings, including nurseries, children centres and community clinics. I have worked closely with Teachers, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and other health professionals. I believe in a holistic approach, meaning I consider the whole child, not just their communication issues, to understand why they may need support.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Science, awarded in Brazil. I later obtained a Specialization in Voice, from Centro de Estudos da Voz (Centre for Voice Studies) in São Paulo, Brazil. I have also completed a number of specialist Speech Therapy and Voice training courses in the UK.
I worked for Evelina London, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, for five years. During this time, I became registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC). I am a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP), and have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check.
I’m married and live in South East London with our toddler, Leonardo, who teaches me something new every day.

Testimonials

Fernanda

My son, Anthony Ezekiel, is 2 and a half years old. He has a significant speech delay and was also suspected to have autism. In just a few months, he has achieved great results. Today, my son can express himself more than he could before. He used to be very frustrated and displayed aggressive behaviors towards people, but not anymore. These remarkable improvements are not only noticeable to our family but also to our close friends. I highly recommend Barbara for her professionalism and dedication to her work.

Tatiane

My daughter, Sofia, has been diagnosed with autism. While looking for a speech therapist, I came across Barbara, an attentive and sensitive professional who is visibly passionate about her work, especially because she loves children. She puts in maximum effort to deeply understand Sofia's needs and to make the sessions very comfortable and natural. Sofia used to prefer playing alone, and now she asks for Barbara to play with her. Sofia is calmer and more able to control her emotions, and is speaking in longer sentences. I highly recommend Barbara's work because she helps both the child and the parents, often providing us with support and assistance. For us, Barbara has become a friend with a big heart and a lot of dedication.
